Vegan Fun Facts!

Vegan Fun Fact #1:

A lifelong vegetarian saves around:
760 chickens

5 cows

20 pigs

29 sheep

46 turkeys

15 ducks

7 rabbits

AND
Half a ton of fish

I did not become Vegan for my love of animals, but I do see this as a perk!

Vegan Fun Fact #2

You have heard people say that diet soda is better than regular soda, because it doesn't have all of that sugar. Right? WRONG! Soda is B-A-D! Long before I became vegan, I gave up all sodas completely because they are literally full of crap. If you don't know me, here is a little tidbit: I am blunt. If you want your body to look like crap and if you want to feel like crap then fill it up with crap. I found this pic earlier today and I thought that I would share:

GROSS, right? Even though diet sodas don't contain all of the sugar, they still have plenty of the other harmful substances that are no good for our bodies. Now, most sodas are vegan but I thought I would add this little bit of information and I did not know where else to put it! Take care of yourself! Love your body!

Vegan Fun Fact #'s 3-10
 ****WARNING, DISTURBING IMAGES****

World meat production has quadrupled in the last 50 years. With the demand for meat, eggs and dairy increasing and more cultures beginning to adopt a meat based diet (thank you U.S.A.), the livestock population in factory farms is beginning to outnumber humans. Industrial farms produce massive amounts of animal waste that not only harm our environment, but they also get into the food that we consume. Animal waste releases greenhouse gases into the air. The industrialized food system also burns insane amounts of fossil fuels to power the trucks that deliver these foods.

Here are a list of interesting facts that I have found:

"Studies indicate that a varied vegan diet requires about a third of the land needed for conventional Western diets.  Quite simply, we do not have enough land to feed everyone on an animal-based diet."

"Overgrazing is blamed for 35 per cent of soil degradation, deforestation for 30 per cent and agriculture for 27 per cent.  These main causes are directly or indirectly related to the consumption of animal products."

"The expansion of agricultural land accounts for more than 60 per cent of worldwide deforestation.  Most of this land is used to graze beef cattle."

"The wholesale destruction of forest environments to provide grazing land for cattle and to grow feed for livestock contributes direct to loss of biodiversity."

"Although statistics vary, it is safe to say that it takes at least three times the amount of water to feed a meat eater compared with that used to feed a vegan."

"The consumption of animal products contributes to global warming, pollution, water scarcity, land degradation, deforestation and loss of biodiversity – in other words, all the major environmental problems."

I do not care if you eat meat, but these are some interesting things to consider if you are thinking about becoming a vegan/vegetarian.
